Rey Mysterio Biography
Oscar Gutierrez was born on December 12, 1974 in a small town where he was raised by his family. He was trained by his uncle, Rey Mysterio Senior who was a long time wrestling star. He first started wrestling in Mexico where he learned his famous style called the Lucha Libre, a high flying style that started acrobatic wrestling, very difficult to perform.
He worked for Asistencia Asesoria y Administracion in Mexico from 1992 to 1995, shortly after he was hired by Extreme Championship Wrestling from 1995 to 1996. After his stay in the ECW he started in World Championship Wrestling from 1996 to 2001 but didn’t make his real professional debut until 1998. He finally removed his mask in 1999 after he performed in the Hair vs. Mask match, he was very unhappy and believed releasing his identity was a bad marketing play. Around the same time he started covering his body in religious arts to pay tribute to his Roman Catholic heritage and his family.
Later on, early in his career, he changed his name from Rey Mysterio Jr. to Rey Mysterio and started working with WWE in the begining of 2002. In 2006-2007 Mysterio was mixed up in a situation connected with steriod/HGH, however WWE officials defended their wrestlers and showed that the organization didn’t patented the Talent Wellness programs until February of that year before 2006, but Rey Mysterio was still suspended for 30 days in 2009 although cleared of allegations.
Overall the Lucha Libre wrestler has won the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship five times, thw World Tag Team Championship three times and the WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship once when he was partnered with Billy Kidman. He also has become very victorious in the ring for the WWE/WWF corporation winning the WWE World Cruiserweight Championship three times, WWE Tag Team Champion Ship four times, the WWE Intercontinental Championship twice. In total he has competed and won 21 separate titles between WWE and WCW.
